The Assistant Carpenter performs building and repair work on woodwork, wallpapering, carpeting, and related carpentry tasks throughout the vessel. The role requires a positive, team-oriented attitude and the ability to participate fully in a dynamic crew environment. The incumbent supports the Carpenter in maintaining interior finishes, doors, panels, and fixtures, while adhering to safety, quality, and environmental policies.
Key Responsibilities
General maintenance and repair of woodwork, wall paneling, doors, locks, and related elements.
Assist with wallpapering, carpeting, and other interior finish work as directed.
Ensure safe work practices, use appropriate PPE, and keep work areas clean and organized; seal off working areas from passengers as required.
Follow Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies; attend mandatory safety drills.
Report progress and any issues to the Carpenter Supervisor; assist with planning and scheduling of carpentry tasks.
Maintain tools and inventory related to carpentry activities; document maintenance and work performed.
Participate in meetings, trainings, and other work-related activities as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision; may be asked to support other areas of the Carpentry team as needed.
Qualifications & Training
Minimum two years of craftsman-related experience and training.
Elementary to middle school education (8th grade) or international equivalent.
Completion of one full contract with a satisfactory or above rating.
Certifications/Training:
Any relevant carpentry, finishing, or safety training as applicable.
Language Requirements
Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests and crew.
Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures; effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
Additional languages preferred but not required.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Physical: Regularly stand, walk, and perform manual tasks; operate hand tools; lift up to 50 pounds; may include kneeling, bending, and working in tight spaces.
Vision: Close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Environmental: Work on a shipboard environment with exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures; use of PPE required; may require shifts or overtime; able to work in confined spaces and at heights as needed. Full use of arms, legs, vision, hearing, and coordination is required to perform duties effectively.
