Job Title: Senior Agile Scrum Master

Job Location- Austin, Texas- Hybrid

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Agile Scrum Master to support planned application development initiatives within a complex, multi-system environment. This role requires strong facilitation, coaching, and servant-leadership skills to ensure Agile teams operate efficiently, consistently, and in alignment with organizational objectives.

The Scrum Master will work closely with Product Owners, development teams, stakeholders, and IT leadership to promote transparency, foster collaboration, and remove impediments that impact delivery. Given the diversity of technical platforms and project scopes, the ideal candidate must be adaptable, proactive, and deeply grounded in Agile principles and frameworks.

Maximum hourly rate: $130/hour

Job Duties & Responsibilities

1. Scrum Facilitation and Team Leadership

  • Ensure Scrum processes, ceremonies, and Agile practices are consistently followed across assigned teams.
  • Lead and facilitate all Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and release planning.
  • Observe and enforce quality standards to ensure deliverables are complete, tested, and production-ready.
  • Provide senior-level coaching to Scrum teams on Agile values, principles, and best practices to drive continuous improvement and maturity.
  • Proactively identify, track, and remove impediments that hinder team progress.

2. Planning, Delivery, and Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Product Owners to ensure sprint commitments are realistic, backlog items are well-defined, and priorities align with business objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by refining workflows, reducing cycle time, and improving velocity and quality.
  • Facilitate coordination across Scrum teams, technical leads, and stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery and dependency management.

3. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Maintain transparent and effective communication with business stakeholders, project sponsors, and technical leadership to align expectations and resolve issues.
  • Track and communicate Agile performance metrics (e.g., velocity, burn-downs, cycle time) to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Serve as a senior Agile advocate, sharing best practices and coaching teams and stakeholders.
  • Coach Product Owners on Agile responsibilities, including backlog creation and refinement, writing effective user stories and acceptance criteria, and coordinating user acceptance testing.

4. Strategy and Task Execution

  • Independently plan and execute work while managing complex, multifaceted challenges.
  • Advocate for improvements to workflows, team structures, sprint planning approaches, and organizational practices to enhance delivery quality and predictability.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to elevate Agile maturity and effectiveness across the organization.

Candidate Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • 8+ years of demonstrated expertise in Scrum and Kanban, including coaching teams on Agile principles and implementation.
  • 8+ years facilitating all Scrum ceremonies across multiple teams or large-scale projects.
  • 8+ years of experience working with Product Owners, technical leads, senior IT stakeholders, and external vendors.
  • 8+ years of experience tracking and applying Agile performance metrics (e.g., velocity, burn-down charts) to drive continuous improvement.
  • 8+ years fostering collaborative, self-organizing, and high-trust team environments.
  • 8+ years of strong verbal and written communication skills, including reporting and documentation.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, or equivalent platforms.
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or equivalent Agile certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience supporting public-sector or large enterprise IT initiatives.
  • 5+ years of experience coaching Product Owners on Agile roles, responsibilities, and best practices.
